Gun sales spiked in the run up to the 2008 election because many local yokels felt that President Obama would take away their guns. He didn’t. But faced with the prospect of Obama getting reelected, or if defeated, passing anti-gun legislation during a lame duck session, second amendment fanatics are headed back to the gun store.
These largely unfounded fears have led many gun stores to proclaim Obama as the best salesman they’ve ever had.
“People are definitely scared of a president who has voted when he was a senator against guns,” Anthony Bouchard, director of the Wyoming Gun Owners Association in Cheyenne told the Wyoming Star Tribune. “If Obama gets re-elected] he’s in a lame-duck session and he can do the things he wants to do. That’s what we’re afraid of.”
This just proves that some conservatives are determined to find a way to fear a black president, even if they’re forced to fabricate reasons. The truth is, President Obama didn’t do anything on gun control during his first term, and there’s no reason to believe he’ll take a different stance if reelected.
What is it they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? Republicans keep going out and loading up on bullets and weaponry, expecting an apocalypse ushered in by Democrats, but it never comes. You’d think, after awhile, they’d learn that those nightmarish scenarios only exist inside the walls of their paranoid skulls.
