Next For Tyler Perry: Movie About Single Mothers, “Single Mom’s Club”
There is a lot of talk about Tyler Perry’s first leap into action- movie-hero territory. Reviews are mixed, but Perry is not sitting around waiting to see what happens. Instead, he has moved full stream ahead into more ventures.
The 43-year-old multi-talented actor, director, screen writer and playwright is working on his next project — a “dramedy”– called “Single Mom’s Club”. Perry is expected to partner with Lionsgate for the distribution of the movie.
The movie is about a group of single mothers who come from different walks of life and cross paths because of an incident that took place at the school their children were attending. Once the women meet each other, they form a support group which is helpful to all of them as they navigate life’s ups and downs. As we have come to expect, Perry will be writing, directing, producing and starring in the movie.
More information about the project is expected to be revealed since it is expected to begin in Atlanta next month.
The movie is presumed to have a 2013 release date, along with two other movie projects that Perry is working on: “The Marriage Counselor”and “We The Peeples”.
Perry will also be working on his joint venture with Oprah Winfrey, writing scripts for the new series that will be on Winfrey’s cable network, OWN. Perry also has a number of comedy series on TBS.
Tyler Perry is a busy man.

As a black man, I’m a bit nervous that this will become another ‘For Colored Girls’.
Maybe T.P. will promote a few women building loving relationships with men (not all “good men” are light-skinned!) and either leaving this group or becoming models for the group, showing that a ‘single black mother’ doesn’t have to be one forever.
A whopping 70% of black children are born in homes without a father. This is in 2012.
In 1960, 80% of black children were born with their fathers in the home, The opposite of today’s numbers.
What happened???? Somebody please show me,and don’t just leave it at the feet of the black men. There was no meeting where we decided to abandon our families….
I agree with you. I will try to help with inform the people who will be behind the scenes with outside input.

I am looking forward to this project as I have one of my own, I’ve been a single mom of 4 after an abusive marriage/brutal divorce (in that I was battered during the process). I raised my 3 daughters, and son, and have been raising 3 of my grandchildren. I find inspiration in all of that. And Tyler has been an inspiration in that all that he does touches my life so deeply. I’ve been trough much of it, experienced homelessness twice in my life time (both times with children in the Bush error… I’ve done much better during the Obama term… Moving forward thinking I would do better in a second Obama term.
I think this Dude is a Faggit h**o Sissy Suspect? All his movies are BS especially the one about “For Colored Girls” a Negro married to Janet J & Gay lol you could have sold me for a Dollar lol Miss me with that BS lol Faggit
I agree. Yes Tyler Perry employs Black people. When things go wrong in the community, he is one of the first to step up to make things better. Yes, Tyler Perry can be regarded as some sort of Black people savior. Honestly that’s commendable. However, every movie, play, and tv show all portray Black woman as crack heads or whores or some sort of mal-contempt. Now he wants to romanticize single motherhood. Being a single mother is not cute or glamorous or easy. It is hard as h**l, and those of us that have gotten through it successfully, can wipe away our tears of joy, breath, thank their God or who or whatever got them through, and live life to the fullest. But I fear any twist Tyler Perry depicts about single motherhood. I don’t get this kat and I hope he gets it right!
I love Tyler Perry and everything he plays in. I love all his movies, they always have a message that we as black people should take heed. We need to create our own success and stop blaming and depending on others. It’s definitely hard and but with determination and drive we can be just as successful as Tyler.
