Ne-Yo:Music Industry Needs Icons, Lady Gaga is Not One
Ne-Yo recently accepted the position of senior vice president of A&R at Motown Records and it didn’t take him long to start expressing his views. Unfortunately for Lady Gaga, the views that Ne-Yo expressed were not favorable for her.
Talking to the Daily Star, the singer expressed that, in his opinion, the music industry is lacking in icons and while people might call Lady Gaga an icon, she is not one.
The 29 year old went on to say,
“I’m trying to revitalise Motown by making sure quality is a staple. It’s not just about money, they want icons. Who was the last real icon to come out of the music industry? Everybody thought it was going to be Lady GaGa, but where is she right now, what’s going on with her? Not to take anything away from her because she’s ridiculously talented, but artists who stand the test of time – you just don’t see those any more.”
While Ne-Yo was not specifically targeting Gaga, he is certain to have ruffled some feathers with his comments. Gaga has a following of millions of fans who call themselves Monsters and they are sure to respond. Gaga herself is probably too busy to respond to Ne-Yo as she is out traveling and performing. The singer was recently rumored to be pregnant because of her very noticeable weight gain. The rumor was slow to get around, but her vomiting during a performance in Barcelona did not help. The pregnancy rumor has yet to be confirmed or denied but Gaga did have fun with sharing her story of vomiting while performing.
