John Legend Backs Out of U.S. Tour A Week Before First Show

The New York Times blog is reporting that John Legend has announced that his North American tour has been cancelled. The singer reports that he had to cancel the tour because he has not finished his new album. Technically, the singer did not really cancel the tour; he has postponed it until 2013.

The R & B singer and songwriter’s cancellation seemed abrupt. He had been expected to start the tour later this month. The tour was going to include a show at the newly opened Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The problem with not finishing the album was that it’s release was supposed to coincide with that of the fall tour.

On Thursday, Legend posted a letter to his fans which explained why he cancelled the tour. In the letter, the singer tells his fans that he had fallen behind while working on his latest album, “Love in the Future,” and it was not yet complete. “Love in the Future” is his first album since he worked on “Wake Up!,” with the Roots. The singer’s original plan had been to start his tour on October 16 in Clearwater, Fla. The tour was supposed to feature songs from the new album he is still working on.

While the singer is better known by his stage name, John Legend, his real name is John Roger Stephens. The talented singer and songwriter has won nine Grammy Awards
