Considering Obama’s Indifference To Black People, Should He Get a Second Term?

President Obama made history when he was elected as the first African American to ever win a presidential election (sort of ).  That he made history is indisputable. By taking his Black wife and two beautiful, Black daughters, to the White House, he instantly lifted the ceiling that had always seemed to sit on black people in America.With the ceiling lifted, Black boys across the country could now dream bigger; they could dream of also, one day being president and taking their families to live in the White House.

Many Black people thought that by having a Black man in office, they would finally be heard and the issues important to them would finally be addressed. Lately, though, it seems quite the opposite has happened; President Obama has made several bold moves, for different minority groups, but not Black people.

The President stepped up and said that immigrants who came to this country in their youth should not be kicked out. He stepped up for women and said that they should get equal pay for equal work and then he even stepped up for gay Americans and said they should be able to marry just like non-gay Americans.

With the election inching closer and closer, Black people are waiting for a bold move in their favor and the question now being asked is: “Does President Obama DESERVE a second term?”  We asked this question  on our Facebook page  and the responses are as follows: ( Feel free to respond to the question yourself.)

“Of course he deserves a 2nd term….you can’t undo the “Bush-c**p” in just 4 years…it’s time for the repugs learn how to work together with Democrats and continue to move this country forward.”

“No but black people r gonna make any and every excuse [for] him”

“The President has checked off a few tasks in his planner and I think we are satisfied based on what we personally deem most important. So for those who have not been satisfied by what the President deemed most important on his list of priorities, understand that you are not the POTUS and you have no clue what he is facing day to day. HEALTH CARE Is huge. Our SECURITY is huge and what Bush couldn’t do in his term (kill Osama Bin Laden), the President did in one term. He HAS restored jobs and he is looking to restore our economy in investments that will yield long term results. So YES he does deserve the same amount of time as Bush had to jack things up. He deserves the opportunity to check more things off his list.”

“I think it should be mandatory that every president good or bad should just stay for 8 years. Let them fix the mess, put into action the different policies etc that they are working on. 4 years is simply not enough for such a job. At least after 8 years we can really assess what has or hasn’t been done! Also let’s keep in mind that after awhile you have to stop blaming the person that held the job before. That answer is not suffice for people after awhile. Let’s be real. I am voting for Obama but in another 4 years if changes that people are so called looking for don’t come about please don’t blame it on the former administration. Yes it’s a mess, but let’s just hope/pray that things get better.”

Yes. He does. He saved the auto industry, preempted a depression, improved healthcare for millions, restored our image/respect worldwide, killed Bin Laden and DESERVES another 4 yrs to do even more. As Americans, its our duty to elect a Congress that’s capable of compromise and negotiation and not simply gridlock.

“Seems to me he’s gotten a lot accomplished despite the GOP blocking every attempt to provide more stimulus to the economy. He deserves a second term. The Republicans offer nothing but the SAME policy’s that created this mess in the first place.”

“seeing what he dealt wit yes he does…this 2nd term should contain no excuses”

If these responses are any indication of the general feeling of Black people across the country, it looks like President Obama need not worry too much about Black people not showing up to support him on election day.

    Obama’s indiffernce to black people as ‘you’ stated does not make a big difference in whether he should have a second term. I am voting for him because I am a democrat. I was a democrat before Obama ever came on the scene. I am sure I will be one after he is off the scene.

    While a bit disappointed with his apparent inaction towards us, he’s done a better job than expected. Think about it:
    * the oil spill was handled with true class and action;
    * his Obamacare is something meant to help people in
    the future-if it isn’t repealed;
    * his classy handling of the politicians who have a problem respecting him or his office.

    We’ve waited long enough for a black President, and Obama needs to address our community more often, to be sure. He’s been working with us at arm’s length for his 1st 4 years.

    Maybe he’ll work more with us in his last 4 years. He can let it all hang out then…

    He’s the President of everyone, to be sure. We’re part of that equation. Don’t ignore us anymore, because future Presidents will-they’ll argue that a black President got away with being a non-respondent to black issues, so they can do the same.

    Or worse.

    Of course, the famous line from the film ‘Glory’ comes to mind when asking should we vote for Romney now that we’re not happy with Obama?

    Matthew Broderick’s character responds to Denzel Washington’s character, when asked what do they get if they win,: “You won’t get anything if we lose.”
