Los Angeles-area Hospital Investigates Racist Hanging Effigy
The IT department at Kaiser Hospital Riverside in Southern California is buzzing after a doll was found hanging from a noose with it’s face painted black. The doll also had the words “N*gger Hang” written across its chest.
An investigation is underway at the hospital to find out who is behind the offensive display which is believed to be directed at the African American employees in the hospital’s IT department.
The hospital staff believe that the culprits behind the offensive display are employees of the hospital who have access to the restricted area where the effigy was found.
Xavier Fields is the employee who found the doll near his work station upon arriving for work.
“It’s somebody who works within. It’s a locked area. You don’t go back there.”
Another employee, Tyree Hale, said,
“You’re not sure what to think. I got a supervisor and I let them know what’s going on.”
The employees who reported the incident and handed the doll to a manager say that they did not see anything that indicated that an investigation was underway after they reported the incident.
Kaiser Hospital issued a statement saying,
”We are moving to investigate the matter and will take appropriate action. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination in our workplace and will take all appropriate measures to address the full scope of this situation.”
Even with the hospital saying that they are conducting an investigation, the employees reportedly say that they still feel scared and are not confident that the hospital is taking the incident seriously.
An employee named Hale believes the doll was aimed at him because he is known among his co-workers as the one who arrives at work first.
When asked why he did not report the incident to the police, Hale said,
”Sometimes we just shine it off because we’re just trying to stay working and pay our bills.”
