Tyrese Has a Message for Women and Gay Black Men
In this video, the singer Tyrese has a few things to say gay black men and black women. At the age of 33, Tyrese has been flying high for years and apparently, he’s become an authority all things that involve love and relationships. In the video, Tyrese gives women advice on dealing with men. He says that being the super independent woman isn’t always the best route, and that a woman should have goals for herself. He says that, as a man, he doesn’t want to be with a woman who wants to be a freeloader.
He says that wanting to be independent all the time might lead a woman to a life of loneliness. He says “stay independent, get your own, have your own, but nobody wants to be alone.”
“I know there’s a lot of men playing on both sides of the fence….there’s a lot of frustration that women have. But there are a lot of men’s men out here….just don’t give up on us.”
Check the video out below:

The commentator is spot-on correct. Tyrese comments were ignorant and primitive. His suggestion that bisexual and gay men are not “real men” is ignorant, erroneous, and downright primitive. He sounds like an uneducated clown with that oldtimey homophobic c**p. Shame on him for promoting ignorant myths.
i would consider myself as a woman who is independent.. i prefer a relationship where we are both interdependent.. interdependence requires both people to be independent and dependent, they fill in each others gaps when necessary.. i have met men who are not self-sufficient and want to be enabled.. perhaps i attract this because i am independent.. i dont want a dependent man, and this is an issue i think many independent and overly independent women run into.. the man is not reliable, cannot or will not be providers, yet wants to be the decision-maker and seen as “the man”.. he does not step up, which forces her into the corner of being super independent.. i really think overly-independent women have developed their perspective from experiences where the man was not stable and or was a user.. it causes them to feel that whether they have a man or not, the weight of the relationship will fall on them.. so it would be less stressful to never get involved.. i dont think that is the answer, i prefer to take my time and get to know how a man lives his life before merging with him.. theres alot to learn from failed relationships, such as positively altering your behavior.. no sane independent or overly independent woman will give all of herself to a man who cannot manage his own life.. it doesnt matter how nice, handsome or rich he is.. at least i know i want a mate who compliments and matches me.. kinda like being equally yoked.. i think tyrese should be careful not to identify women and gay men as the cause of this problem
Tyreese,
Thank you for “coming out” and showing the gay public and perhaps many gay fans what your true colors are. And to think I bought “Stay”! How many young gays boys were shocked and saddened by your disdain for the fence riders comment. Your stupidity, and that is no longer debatable, towards men who are not like you will have dire ramifications on your career. You really don’t see how your reckless comments fuels hatred and violence. You don’t understand that your comments are just as hurtful as a white person calling black n*****s. Thank you agaIn for showing the world how utterly stupid you really are. Perhaps you should “stay” away grand generalizations.
Carey Dunn,
Why are his comments ignorant when most black women lament about the “fence rider” bisexuals all the time? Why would a heterosexual black woman want to be “riding” with one of these guys when she could be jeopardizing her emotional and physical health from their deception?
Have you read the latest statistics on black gay and bisexual men in this country? If you did, you would not be so quick to condemn Tyrese’s comments. I think that they were made in the spirit of compassion for the many black women who have experienced these men and the DECEPTION and HAVOC they have caused in the lives of these women and their families.
If you are heterosexual, I hope that you will not be in what you think is a loving and monogamous relationship with a “real, traditional man” and end up with HIV, AIDS or other disease from these “low rider” poor excuses for human beings!!!
If men are gay, that is who they are. But to knowingly deceive another person and to expose them to this lifestyle that they did not sign up for or diseases is a travesty that we continue to gloss over in our altruistic attempts to show compassion for gay and bisexual men.
It is not STUPID or anachronistic that people want traditional relationships and I hope that it will never be. You cannot procreate from a b**t hole or from kissing vaginas. You still need something from a man and a woman to produce the species and most people still use traditional coitus to make a baby.
Despite the billions of dollars (mine and yours, as taxpayers) contributed to this disease, we still have black men (and women) being reckless with their s****l behavior and disposing others to diseases. That is no longer an educational issue, because many know better, but a moral one and cultural and racial suicide, as well. And, we have nobody to blame but ourselves.
If you want to demonize and not buy Tyrese’s music, that is your right as a consumer and surely you can exercise your right to free speech. Likewise, he has the same right to voice his opinion on this and any other issue. I am sure that he has many other fans and will do just fine.
Joplin;
You make the assumption that all bisexual/gay men carry disease and are the direct cause of ruining black relationships and the spread of disease amongst black women.
Tyrese’s comments were ignorant and smack of the pervasive misinformation that paints the black community. SMH.
Now thats straight with no chaser! Thanks
Sister, what is in your spirit that would cause you to go off on this brother like that??? You are wrong and out of order. You are grossly misinformed to think that everyone is obligated to accept homosexuality and not be bold enough to publicly speak against it. Tyrese is a grown man and grown men don’t need to check in with anyone before they decide to speak. He was very MUCH on point from the independent black woman to the gay men. Contrary to your miseducation, homosexuality has quite a bit to do with the lack of potential and available mates for black women. So, his comments were not only intelligent, they were factual. And the facts that he pointed out do not fan any flames of hatred and violence. So, please stop using the LGBT community handbook of false attacks.
I extend a personal thank you to Tyrese for having the courage to speak up about issues in our community and not sit back on the sidelines like other artist and do nothing but contribute to them. Furthermore, this is not about playing the blame game. Black men and women equally have accountability for our condition. But, most importantly, the system of white supremacy is the unseen hand in it all.
SICK BEAST!!!! I love it! Haaaa!!
Why do the words Black women and freeloader come out of prominent, or celebrity Black men’s mouths so much? You don’t say that about gold digging FREELOADING, RAPE CALLING, TAKING YOU TO JAIL, white women, (and now others). I’m sick of hearing it! I turned the video off as soon as he said it. I’m glad my Black daddy loved and married my Black momma who loves and still loves him because he didn’t have all of the ISSUES these current, privileged, Black men have. WHAT HAPPENED!
Look I am not even going to look at the video. As a person regardless if i agree or disagree with his opinion I respect it. Because guess what, I have one too. Now I can say that all of youthat supported him for what ever reason make me cringe but i am not. I never liked his music. This would not sway my opinion about him one way or another. This is small stuff. There are bigger things to worry about than one person’s opinion. When he sang on that cola commercial I was looking like the nerve of this minstrel show. Hey but it is my opinion. First of all by me being BLACK alone i know my birth was hated. No not everyone is going to like me. I am not going to make no one like me. My opinion is that you got to be as strong as concentrated coffee if you are Black and gay or you won’t survive. Black women lol You all should teach classes on a lot of stuff cause you from what I see of you smart, beautiful and if i am getting my a*s kicked you will jump in and help and not run. So everyone has an opinion and they can bring all kinds of things to the table to support their opinion but at the end of the day everyone has one but i think he bit off more than he can chew when he talked about people and never walked in their shoes. Now you have my opinion on this matter.
The “down low” brothers are in a fit of rage because they cannot face how shameful it is what they are doing to women.
I know plenty of “down low” brothers. All they care about is covering up what they really are…no matter who gets hurt or worse.
As regards straight men making babies…rest assured that making babies is better than making somebody hiv positive.
Finally, as a educated professional straight black male, I resent having to compete with “down low” brother for women. Down low brothers have the women because they will say or do anything to get what they want.
Down low brothers also have women because black women have serious mental health issues. Black women crave the company of men who are obviously gay. They resent real black men…men who they should be taking seriously for dating and marriage.
“Down low” brothers aren’t the only ones who will say or do anything to get women. As a Black Man in a similar situation as yourself (hetero, educated professional) I resent having to compete with the ‘playa’ brothers out there. These men also have a bunch of women because they know how to play ‘the game’, and say what women want to hear, even though they mean them no good. Guys like me who are looking for one GOOD woman, usually hear horror stories of the last guy that took her for granted and used her for all she was worth. These guys promise them the world, get what they want, and then they go on their merry way, leaving a trail of broken hearts (and sometimes babies and STD’s) behind them. These women then proceed to paint all men with the ‘no good’ paintbrush. Guys like me usually suffer the consequences of these brothers, as well as the women who dated them, because these women now won’t believe the things a serious brother will tell them as they “have heard it all before”! The women continue to suffer from these ‘playas’ because when a good man comes along, and there ARE still quite a few of us out here, they won’t even give him a chance!
I won’t condemn Tyrese just yet for his comments, but pointing fingers is not going to help the situation. There are problems on both sides of the fence, men and women, both homosexual and hetero. Let’s get this straight, women (PERIOD, not Black, white or any other color) need to become more discerning in who they allow within their bodies. Just because this male may be able to “lay pipe” or whatever, doesn’t mean that they will be good fathers and/or providers for children should they come from said actions. Men, I don’t care if you’re homosexual, hetero or bi, make that plain and clear to whoever your partner is so that they can tell what they are putting themselves into beforehand and be responsible with yourself and your packaging. That’s it and done with.
Agreed!
I honestly do not believe that Tyrese was “pointing a finger” or intended to take a jab at gay men in any way. I feel as though some people are always trying to find fault or trying to find something “wrong” in something being said by a celebrity. I think people lose sight of the fact that there are women out there that have men in which they fall deeply in love with that turn out to be gay. some even have children with these men and are even married to them but because they are straddling the fence and are not being honest with themselves or others and they choose to live a lie. Now don’t get me wrong, this is not the case with all african american women but i believe that Tyrese touched on it because it is something that is taking a tole on african american women. I feel as though he mentioned it to remind those women that they don’t have to feel as though it’s the end of the world because they’ve experienced such a thing because some african american women as well as other women tend to hold on to things and make irrational decisions based on things they themselves can not control. I honestly believe that had a gay male said the same thing that tyrese did in another video, it would have been okay because he’s gay. however, because TYrese is straight then he is due gay people some type of special respect. And i feel this to be the case with many people; every one has to walk on egg shells because no one wants to offend the “gay person”. That’s a load of c**p because we are all EQUAL, meaning we all are talked about equally, criticized equally, praised equally, etc. I feel as though you’re only singled out when YOU as a person view youself as such. I feel as though there is nothing wrong nor right about what he said because it is simply his opinion. And for every person that hated what he said, there is another that loved it! As a woman that is african american, someone that has been interested in someone that happened to be homosexual, an individual with homosexual friends, and a christian woman I honestly believe that no one should take what was said in this video as a crutch to d**n another and no one should take what was said to heart or as law. If Tyrese doesn’t like gay people or whatever i don’t feel like that should change your feeling toward his music because hey! there are millions of people that don’t. That is their choice and that choice doesn’t stop those individuals from being great at what they do. I feel as though some of us need to grow up a little and not take every little thing to heart because as long as they live people are going to have opinons and others are going to agree and disagree. This is a way of life. The thing that shows who YOU are is the way that you react to these things.
Christopher, I agree with your comments on this topic.
DO……
HOMOSEXUAL MEN DO COMPETE W/ WOMEN, and in the process use and abuse females…?
Have….
homosexual men have often made it a point of pride to seduce “real men” to breaK marriages etc….?
flaunt themselves before impressionable children,
and, when in a bind, resort to s*x w./women, after participating in multiple partners, s*x trade, risk….?
does it appear that….the principle end seems 2 be to gratify carnal at all cost…?
could it be that the overall objective appears to be to wreck as much as possible, all who happen to be vulnerable. “lgbt false facts” notwithstanding
Dude’s comment on Tyrere was dumb, he sound like the hit dog that wants to holla. I have witnessed relationships where there are gay men sleeping around on their wives and have children. In Atlanta they got the boy booty hoe stroll right there in midtown, trust anybody who knows Atlanta knows well the gay epidemic that’s going on their for years, over all when it comes to relationships both men and women need to learn to be interdependent on each other, they need to learn moment by moment how to love and stop relying on the system, women need to stop giving up their men for food stamps, welfare, and public housing, call them selves independent, because they are pawns, some b*m a*s slaves who depend on their slave holders,to enslave them and in return they give up their men, good and bad to a system that don’t care nothing about them it’s called democracy aka mob rule dressed as a government that is all about separation so to the guy who commented in the video come with a real reason to hate not nonfactual c**p that’s ungainly and usefulness to anybody’s growth.
Tyrese was on point and the guy who responded needs to really check his facts before sounding like a true hater! There are many black women out here who really need to check themselves and cut the bullshit and realize that there are good men out there who are not deadbeats or sexually confused. Tyrese doesn’t need to make another album if he don’t want to so it’s not an issue of record sells he’s just telling what he feels is the truth and he has the freedom of speech to back him up. Wake up Black America cause most of us are still slaves!
Tyrese is an idoit!!! Plain and simple. First of all black women need to learn to practice safe s*x. If they get AIDS it is there fault!!! What women in her right mind or man for that fact would be having unprotected s*x in world today? You have black men and sisters sleeping with escorts, strippers, IV drug abusers, and etc. But you want to blame it on so-called down low brothers. You are responsible for you health, that’s it and that’s all!!!! SAFE s*x ONLY!!!!!!
So then I suppose straight men don’t cheat on women, right? How is a bisexual man cheating on a woman any worse than a straight man doing so? Cheating is cheating. And to the guy talking about women being limited in regard to mates: gay people make up only 3% of the population. So all of you straight people have a whole 97% to get “mates” from while we gay people have only our 3%. If there’s anybody struggling to find “mates” its obviously not the heteros.
wow tyrese is my kinda man regardless he still sexy:P:P:P
