Nina Simone’s Daughter is Not Happy with Zoe or the Unauthorized Biography
The internet is in an uproar over the news that Zoe Saldana has signed on to play Nina Simone.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Shadow and Act reports that Saldana had been plucked to play the iconic piano player and vocalist and singer in an upcoming biopic going into production on October 16th.
Now Nina’s daughter is speaking up and she’s revealed that the project isn’t even authorized:
India.Arie is not an actress – she is a singer. Why not Zoe Saldana? She’s beautiful and capable of playing the role with depth and all the intricacies of Nina Simone’s life.
I agree with you Princess P. I think people are upset cause she’s Afro-Latina and therefore not African American. Denzel washing looked nothing like Malcom X but did a wonderful portrayal of him. When black people discriminate against themselves it’s the worse form of self hate. Guess what if Zoe is replaced I guarantee you the replacement will be a terrible pick.
I would love to see Viola Davis play the part of Nina Simone. She is an outstanding actress and would do a wonderful job in this movie.
to the two^^^ hello just cause India Arie hasn’t acted doesn’t mean she can’t.A lot of rappers/singers started out as just that before acting.Zoe can’t sing or play the piano so should that make her any less qualified for the part.People are simply stating there opinion about who a close match,just as they are having the same talk going on about an Aaliyah movie.
Yes,if they are to short,to skinny,to big,to dark,to light,to old, to young, they are going to point it out because they think it’s suppose to be perfect.I would of liked to see Alicia Keys play her, but Zoe is a good actress and I know she will play Nina Simone well.
India Arie,Angela Bassett,Viola Davis would be a better and credible selection of artists to portray the fabulous Nina Simone. However,the casting director’s decision to cast Zoe Zaldana to portray Nina Simone is ridiculous! There isn’t anything soulful about this actress!
