Traditionally, many corporations, and even military entities, have shunned natural hair on people of African descent. Even though some companies have relaxed their rules with the swell in the number of blacks with natural hair, others are still stuck to the biased belief that a black person’s natural hair is unkept and unseemly.
The Afro-Europe blog reports that Aboubakar Traoré, a Frenchman who works for Air France, was recently informed by management that his hair was harming the company’s image and that he’d have to wear a wig or risk losing his job.
Apparently, black women are allowed to wear braids and locs, but not men. Traoré had reportedly been wearing locs for some time before he was called into the office by management.
A petition is being circulated to fight the company’s policy.
Would you wear this wig to keep your job?
