‘The little girl I never had’: As well as speaking about their final phone call Dionne also explained how close she and Whitney were
Dionne, who is Whitney’s cousin explained how The Bodyguard star had asked to attend a party at the Beverly Hills hotel that evening.
Warwick noted: ‘She said, “You’re here, aren’t you? You’re coming to the party, aren’t you?” I said, “Yeah, I’m going to be there” and she said, “Thank you, I want you to be here. You’ve got to be here for me.”‘
Just hours later on February 11 Whitney was found dead in her hotel room.
Speaking of the late star Dionne asserted: ‘She was so up and ready and happy. She had everything in the world to live for. She had a new film [Sparkle] that was an absolute dream to make and do. She was getting ready to go back into the studio to record. She was getting her vocals together.’
The star also said that she found the death of her family member ‘surreal’ and said it ‘hasn’t really sunk in yet.’
She described Whitney touchingly as ‘the little girl I never had’ – which just shows how close the pair were.
When asked about Bobbi Kristina, who has just been revealed as the beneficiary of Whitney’s estate, Dionne said that she has the support of the whole family.
She said: ‘That’s the one thing I love about my family. We are family.’
The singer also said that Cissy is ‘holding up well.’
