Rush Limbaugh Loses Several Advertisers After Calling Woman a “s**t”
Rush Limbaugh is probably wishing that he’d shown a bit more respect for women’s rights this week. A flower company is the seventh advertiser to take away its support for the Rush Limbaugh radio program after Limbaugh made disrespectful comments about a woman who testified before Congress on issues related to birth control policy.
ProFlowers is leaving the fold of Limbaugh Show supporters, announcing via Facebook that Limbaugh’s comments about Sandra Fluke “went beyond political discourse to a personal attack and do not reflect our values as a company.”
Other companies to drop their support for the controversial host include Quicken Loans, Sleep Train and Sleep Number, Citrix Systems Inc., online data backup service provider Carbonite and LegalZoom.
ProFlowers, an online delivery service, began to receive tweets from concerned customers who questioned the company’s decision to support a host who referred to a young woman as a “s**t” and “prostitute” for testifying in favor of birth control.
Limbaugh’s employer, Premiere Networks, sought to contain the damage by issuing a pubic statement:
“The contraception debate is one that sparks strong emotion and opinions on both sides of the issue,” Premiere Networks said in a statement. “We respect the right of Mr. Limbaugh, as well as the rights of those who disagree with him, to express those opinions.”
