Republicans don’t excite me very much, but it seems that we have to at least acknowledge them. The party has become, in recent years, an even worse example of politics gone scary. The right wing opposition to having a black liberal in the White House has led to some illogical decision-making and an intense desire to cut off noses to spite one’s face. Super Tuesday is an example of this phenomenon and it simply wasn’t pretty.
I reluctantly came to Washington DC for a Howard University event hosted by Roland Martin. I was happy to find that someone didn’t see me as a fit for the panel, because I honestly don’t believe that most black folks care two cents about what Republicans are doing. Why in the world would we want to give the respect of prolonged critical analysis to a group of men who’ve accused us of being a pack of welfare recipients? At least when it comes to Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, most black folks are telling them to “talk to the hand.”
