According to Reuters, a bankrupt Central Falls, Rhode Island school received a check for $10,000 from the three-time Oscar winner on Monday via Streep’s organization, the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts.

“We’ve just been screaming from the rooftops,” the school’s founder and director of operations Angelo Garcia says.

“We’re excited Meryl Streep has gotten the ball rolling for us, but we recognize there’s a long road ahead of us,” he adds.

Davis, 46, grew up in Central falls and has been championing the school through both her moral and financial support. The school is housed in a government building earmarked to be sold to alleviate the city’s financial difficulties. If the school doesn’t purchase the building for $1.2 million within the next 12-13 weeks, it’ll have to move.

Luckily, Davis had mentioned the school’s plight to Streep, her longtime friend, during a recent conversation. Davis has “always kept us on her radar,” Garcia says.
