Ricky Gervais was absolutely hilarious hosting the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards which aired Sunday evening; but the steep competition was no laughing matter.
Hollywood elite George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Sir Ben Kingsley, Dustin Hoffman, and Sidney Poitier — who, along with Dame Helen Mirren, presented Morgan Freeman with the Cecil B. DeMille award for his nearly five decades of outstanding work — all came out to see who would take home the award many believe to be the most accurate predictor of the Oscar winners.
Among the top winners were Octavia Spencer for her role as the sassy maid in ‘The Help’ and Idris Elba, for his starring role in “Luther.” The surprise upset of the night was when Merryl Streep beat out fan favorite, Viola Davis, for Best Actress honors for her role in “The Iron Lady.”
Madonna also bested Mary J. Blige for her Best Song.
As the camera panned out to Davis’s face, it was easy to tell that she was not pleased by the outcome, but don’t worry, Viola, the Oscars are just around the corner.
