Principal Forced Into Retirement Over Student's Suspension For "Cute" Remark

When Brookside Elementary School’s principal, Jerry Bostic, suspended 9-year-old Emanyea Lockett for calling his teacher “cute” he may have expected a lot of attention — we’re not sure if he expected this.

After accusing Emanyea of sexual harrassment and suspending him for 3 days, school officials investigated the matter and came to the conclusion that the principal over-reacted.

And that it’s time for him to end his career.

“After a thorough investigation by school officials involving the suspension of a fourth grade student at one of our elementary schools, it has been determined there was no sexual harassment,” the district said in a statement.

“We regret this situation happened,” the district said. “The superintendent has attempted to contact the family to offer an apology to the parents and student. The school system is also sending an official letter of apology to the parents and student.”

According to the Gaston Gazette, Bostic was given a choice: Accept a demotion to assistant principal, or be fired.

Bostic decided on door number 3 — he retired.

“One mistake in 44 years, and I’m not given the benefit of the doubt. I really don’t believe I was treated fairly,” Bostic told WSOC 9 News.

The boy’s suspension will not count on his record and he will be allowed to make up all work without penalty.

“This is something that everyone needed to see, just to see what’s happening within our school systems,” Lockett’s mother, Chiquita, told WSOC 9 News.

  1. Thank God, right won over wrong.

    • FINALLY!!!!!!!! SOME JUSTICE FOR OUR CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY OUR YOUNG BOYS. BLACK FOLKS, PLEASE PROTECT AND EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN FROM THESE IGNORANT,BLOOD-THIRSTY COWARDS.

  2. Poor, poor principal, what’s wrong with the world? They won’t even allow you to ruin an innocent child’s life anymore.Who knows what other stupid and low down things this clown has done in the past 42 years? You can’t teach people you don’t love.

  3. This principal really over reacted and paid the price. I have no sympathy for him.

    • Mark you calendar. When you remember 20 years from now check to see where Emanyea Lockett is.
      See who won.

      • yOU DON’T EVEN KNOW WHERE YOU WILL BE IN THE NEXT 10″……eSPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE A FOOL…

        • Lol. Well said!

      • Didn’t know it was a contest. Thought it was the life and future of a little boy.

  4. I just don’t understand how this happened. What was the principal trying to accomplish?

Zero tolerance for the students so therefore it should be zero tolerance for the staff as well.

  5. @Mark, better yet tell us where you are in life? What are your professional credentials to suggest you know the future?

  6. Why did the teacher turn the fourth grader anyway? Why didn ‘t she just talk to him on a one to one. The teacher should have had an conversation with the boy and designed a lesson surrounding appropriate words to use.

    • I wasnt aware the word cute was inappropriate. When did having a crush on a teacher in elementary school become so malicious?

  7. I used to teach elementary school. Little boys had crushes on me. None ever came right out and called me cute, but you know, you can always tell. Had one of my students called me cute, I would have smiled, said thank you and would you all open your social studies books to page 12. You know, just got on with my day. Would never have gotten as crazy as all this mess.
