Massive Black Buffoonery Over the New Air Jordans: Should We Be Embarrassed?
You’ve never seen black people embarrass themselves more than during the release of the new Air Jordans. People lined up for hours outside of stores, mobs busted down the doors to the mall, people were getting robbed of their shoes and one woman was arrested for leaving her babies in the car so she could get a pair of shoes.

Absolutely! Many of our people have regressed in a major way. They seem permanently destined to be brainless zombies…and we wonder why we receive NO respect from the international community. Our priorities and morals are nearly nonexistent. I’ve come to the conclusion that the vast majority of black people will NEVER awaken from their slumber *SMDH*
First of all ignorance comes in all colors, no matter what the race of a person is….and true to form you just proved my point… Jamal Jenkums. You need to go and educate yourself before speaking out on an issue that you know nothing about. And because of your ignorance, i feel very sorry for you. Before you get on your soap-box about sending african americans back to africa as you say, if history serves me they were in their own land when the whites came and it has been a nightmare since. So take your hate filled message some were else were someone may give a f*** because this website is not for haters.
Yes we should be embarrassed! We should be embarrassed that we have allowed our children to believe that being able to buy things is more important than creating and selling our own things. We need to teach our children how to be entrepreneurs and how to behave. This is yet another example of the breakdown of the family because teaching begins at home and is extended to the community. If our children are not getting taught at home then those of us who are near need to teach them. I am really disappointed in Michael Jordan for allowing the shoes to be created and sold in the first place. He’s contributing to the demise of his own people and other races that buy his product.
I am at a loss here – why is it Michael Jordan’s fault that silly people do stupid stuff to buy stuff with his name on it? Your message alludes to being entrepreneurs… so why should Michael Jordan’s endorsement of a product make him ashamed? From athletes, to entertainers, to shoes, to clothes, to vulgar music to buying ‘good hair’, … we seemed desperate to find something to ‘Worship” that fills lives with mindless distractions.
Ok Demi, you just contradicted yourself. You said blacks should teach their children to make and sell their own things, right? But you turned around and said you’re disappointed in Michael Jordan for allowing the shoes to be created and sold. He’s doing what you say Black people should do and you’re disappointed in HIM because of the buffoonery that transpires when he releases a new product? This man is an entrepreneur, he has a brand of sneakers that people love and they purchase them, he makes profit, what’s wrong with that? The problem is when people are ready to kill each other for a product…which I’m sure you’ve seen all Black faces acting out when the shoes were released. It’s not MJ’s fault. If you feel that way, then you must be disappointed in all black entrepreneurs. And it’s not like MJ promotes negative products; heck, they’re just shoes! I would understand one’s frustration with someone like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Rihanna, and BET. They tell you to act like a fool for every reason, but MJ doesn’t encourage c**n behavior.
I believe so much more is possible if we stop the self hate that we as a people do and to not tolerate it from others starting with self. Those angry tirade have more to do with the hate that you feel for yourself and less than what the article is really about. Of course I am embarrassed as any race of people would be if you were singled out for love of a thing. Chinese people love to eat brown tender puppies we don’t and think it’s disgusting. Blacks buy MJ’s shoes and won’t stand in those same long lines as if there are any to get jobs okay? What is the point? Yes we do put the wrong priorities in place here and yes I stood up and asked my grandson not to be so misguided and buy these shoes when there are rumors of people getting hurt all around the issues. Michael Jordan should have been more responsible and to at least put out a public announcement encouraging young men that buy the shoes not to hurt others to secure their selves a pair but of course no such thing happened. Our sense of direction is totally wrong ,it comes from a myriad mix of reasons the main one is because of our leaders and who we look to for encouragement and answers. We don’t reach back enough to lift another person up nor do we forgive each other for making mistakes we all do make them and quite a lot to speak plainly about it. I won’t believe that we as a people are not capable of making wise decisions, I feel that we have not practiced enough in those capacities to do so and have not been given the opportunities to do. Once we are catapulted into the criminal justice system and any other form of institutional slavery our growth stops and the breakdown begins. Then we have the naysayers the perfectionist that proofread every nuance and word that comes from our lips. This is ignorant ! This is Ghetto! This is this and this is that? Why can’t we become part of a solution as opposed to being part of the breakdown we tear each other down quicker and faster than any other race will and for that I am sad! We do need some type of solution it won’t come fast though but it can be done if we stay the course and start with little things like guiding our youth toward the light and not away from it for the sake of money. Greed is the Main stay of any economy we each are stake-holders in this piece of society’s orchestration. If we knew better we could do better how true is that My brothers and Sisters How true is that???
After all said and done, the one thing my people need is
After all said and done, the one thing my people need is Education, without which the Black Race will always struggle.
Too bad there isn’t a long line outside libraries to read books. Whoever said ignorance is bliss hadn’t met these fools. Perhaps Michael Jordan is doing more for the black community than I have heard especially since all these pathetic idiots are paying upward $200 for shoes worth $3.
Look here partner, no need for you to assault the ‘lost/stolen’ people from Al Kebulon. This is what has become of the misguided souls of a people ‘made into slaves’ for near four centuries. Blame your frivolous holiday for the frenzy. Fact is, I saw more white and hispanic folk than black, so don’t be so quick to place the burden of sin on blacks.
The line we saw in Los Angeles was MOSTLY black folk, – pushing, cussing and ‘borderline riot’.
The few Hispanic young men, hovering nearby, were avoiding the crowds because of the gang related presence.
FYI: the countries of the Middle East had slaves from Africa 500 years before the Europeans got in on the act. AND they still traffic African Slaves TODAY. Also, many of the slaves that were brought to the Western World had been sold by African Tribes, who had captured them in their turf wars, then sold to the white slave traders. A visit, today, to the ‘slave holding pens’ in the Ivory Coast tells us a ‘chilling’ reminder that the evils of slavery did not begin on Southern plantations of this country.
SO…… I would like this forum to address our individual and collective responsibility to help the black youth and their parents emphasize ‘character’ not materialism, – find peace with ourselves, acknowledge our past and accept that we cannot ‘unscramble eggs’ ( slavery) by buying Air Jordans or being upset that someone else is making money on them!
Some fool had a nerve to question the significance of Kwanzaa as opposed to Christmas. Black people acting as if a material possession is the most important item in their lives. Dr. King, MalcomX, Elijah Muhammed, Marcus Garvey, Rosa Parks and more are crying out from their resting place “foolish people where are you headed”. The clowns now have AirJordans to prance around with their pants hanging down with no schooling or no job and mad at somebody else because of theit stupidity and buffoonery.
They are jus shoes whites, blacks, Asian, Hispanics or whatever we all stand in line to get some shoes sometimes it does not make you stupid or uneducated at all I have friends with degrees and family and friends pursuing them so don’t judge them because they want a pair of shoes who cares I mean ofcourse the violence is ridiculous and I was once robbed for a pair of my air Jordan when I was younger but to say its stupid is not right because its no different than the entire world standing outside in the freezing cold on black Friday or whites standing in line for a stupid twilight movie atleast the shoes r worth something because me personally I now stand in line to get shoes and sell them online and get way much more money than I originally paid for them so let’s find something more important to complain about like devilish music.
Ricky – Please take a writing course to find out about ‘punctuation’. How about a period, comma or Something-? that will help your message A LOT!
The above comment is very pathetic and petty. Such a myopic point of view, why dont you just open your mind and comsider different opinions before you openly, blatantly, dispucably attack someone else over something as meaningless and petty as punctuation. YOU need to get your priorities together lol.
