No, Jay-Z is NOT The First Hip-Hop Artist to Perform at Carnegie Hall
It is being reported that Jay-Z’s upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall is the first hip-hop concert series to be offered at the venue. Perhaps the word “series” is being used to strategically place the event in a unique light, but we’re here to set the record straight. Other hip-hop artists, including the great MC Lyte, have performed at Carnegie in the past, so Jigga is not the first. In the video below, Dr. Boyce Watkins and Yvette Carnell discuss Jay-Z, the direction of hip-hop in America, and whether Jay-Z’s status in the mainstream has led him to move to the front of the line relative to most authentic hip hop artists.

You two are 2 of my favorite commentators in the written word. Listening destroys the content & interlect of your presentation far more than a stutter. Please, in the interest of furthering professionalism . elimanate ( as much as possible) the UMMMMs . ‘You KNows ‘ & the like. It adds absolutely ZERO Ziltch, Zero , Nawda , Uno ? I mean? Having said that Keep Up THe Good Work
AMEN!
Keep shedding light on the truth.
The sad thing is Jay Z almost NEVER talks to black media and culture…Neither does Kanye. Thats sad…I totally agree with you two 100%…awesome discussion
