Black Cartoon Character Being Lynched Is Depicted In Middle School Newsletter
A substitute teacher is in hot water after she sent out a newsletter depicting a black Peanuts character with a noose tied around his neck. The newsletter, sent last week from Sequoia Middle School in California, included the words “white pride” under the character.
School officials claim that the incident may be a big mistake because the picture was part of evidence in a school hate-crime investigation from three years ago.
Principal Connie Cirimeli told the community that the teacher may have added the image without even noticing and then sent it out without having other staffers proofread it. She said that proper action would be taken against the teacher.
I am willing to give this teacher the benefit of the doubt, however, the school should fully and honestly investigate the matter. What’s in question is, if the picture was part of evidence in a school hate-crime investigation from three years ago how did this particular teacher “accidently” have access to it? Additionally, I would love to know what was the outcome of the previous hate crime investigation because if nothing was done this school needs to be investigated for racism overall by its district.

Things like this keep happening over and over and over and over and over and over again, and each time it’s dismissed as a mistake, an oversight, it wasn’t meant to be exactly what it is, which is racism/white terrorism. When are black people going to open their eyes and accept that all white people, at all times, should be viewed as racist suspects? And then when they prove it not be surprised nor think of it as something other than what it is?
I definitely think action should be taken, but to say all white people at all times are racist is pretty ignorant to say! Of course there is racism still in this world but it comes from all people!!
Um, it sounds like the school officials are making up excuses for this teacher and like they think they see “BOO BOO” written across the foreheads of every African American man, woman, and child across this nation! UNACCEPTABLE!
If this is white pride, what does white shame look like. It is really annoying but not surprising to see the re-emergence of bigotry and hatred for African Americans. I am a former Chicago Public School teacher who was railroaded by CPS after I filed an EEOC charge against them. I was the only African American teacher at the school. A Hispanic at Jungman School said I pinched a 7th grader in the face. The boy called me a nigger everyday in English and Spanish. He began to get physical and I buzzed for security. The principal called the police because told her that I pinched him. At this point the When the police came, I showed them my hands he indicated that the boy pinched himself. However , without a police report or DCFS investigation, I was charged with this infraction.Also, I made the mistake of not having him arrested. I left the school and was treated like a run-a-way slave by CPS. There is more to this story and there are many more African American CPS teachers who have been victimized and criminalized by this system. Now if white teachers get away this America is in worse shape than I thought.

I go to this school currently. Connie Cirimelli, the current principal, and Brent Brinkerhoff, vice principal, are racist in my opinion. I reported someone who was gaybashing a bisexual kid I know. I reported it 3 weeks ago and nothing has happened. I pass by this mural. The lynching element has been removed, but it has been vandalized (and still is).
