12-Year-Old Girl Leads March Against Violence in New York

You think you can’t lead when you’re young?  Just tell that to 12-year old Victoria Pannell.  The little soldier is the Northeast Regional Director of Youth for the National Action Network.  She led a march and rally this week in Harlem to challenge the youth violence that has made the neighborhoods and parks in her community unsafe.

There have been a string of killings in New York City recently that have made national news.  In one case, a mother and teacher was shot trying to protect young children from gunfire, and in another, a high school athletic standout was killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  This is just two of many examples where the violence has gotten out of hand.

Pannell has joined with other youth leaders to call for a national cease fire.  She serves as inspiration to young people everywhere that they can make a difference if they try.  Let’s hope she is successful in her battle to save her peers.
