Dr. Boyce: Why are Schools Putting So Many Black Kids in Handcuffs?
In this video, Dr. Boyce Watkins speaks with Professor Christopher Emdin from Columbia University. Dr. Watkins and Dr. Emdin respond to the recent report that one child per day is arrested in New York City public schools and 93% of those kids are black or brown. The conversation (the audio is a bit choppy, but we’re working on that) focuses on black kids in the school system and why they are more likely to be punished by teachers.
The video is below:
My daughter caught a case for arguing with another girl in the hallway. They gave her a ticket, fine and juvenile work force for two days. Just for an argument – no fight took place. I live in Colorado.
My other daughter got beat up by Hispanic gang members (Sorenos) in the restroom and she got charged also – they jumper her mind you while she was by herself.
God has got to stop this mess!!!!
Well Jackie that’s how cowards roll in numbers never solo, my son had a fight in Jr High got a ticket and comunity service and 8 yrs later he find out at a job interview that it’s on his record. SO I’m saying that to say this. 1 never confess to anything ever, 2 A miner can’t sign any documents weather it be probation papers, tickets or any tthing else. So as soon as possible contact the agency and make sure that BS is taken off of any record or else you will take it to the court while your child is a miner. best of luck to you. Our children are OUR blessing from god and we shouldn’t never ever let anybody rail-road them into a life of BS and self-disrtuction. As far as the Mexicans hell they get a slap on wrist then change their name to Valdez or move back to Mexico for a vacation
I think PISS POOR parenting is the number one reason these children are experiencing this crap.let’s deal with the failure of BLACK PARENT’S then we can solve this problem…
Believe it or not, I actually hold some white people most responsible for the racial violent crime rate disparity. Namely the white liberals/”progressives”/socialist/communist/mostly humanist-atheist who supported the notion that whites in general and the “white establishment” was to blame for the disparity [black Islam/black power grouops also have been conveying the "evil whitey is to blame for everything" message for decades]. And the owners of the businesses that produce gangsta/violent/ “entertainment” that has aided corrupting America are mostly white.
As for ordinary working class people of all races,…….. “all have sinned and fallen short” ALL.
America is just a temporal nation and nations can’t be “saved.”
Forget worrying about the salvation of America.
It’s you OWN salvation that really matters.
Like they tell you on the airplane,… first get the oxygen mask on yourself.
Cause you can’t help anyone else if you yourself pass out.
I struggle with some of the characterisation put before me in the video. If students are jumping around then how are they going to take notes and focus on what’s going on in the classroom. Dr. Boyce you have a background in finance so if you were teaching a course in finance, which is by the way applied mathematics, and students are not engaged properly, then how do you expect to teach your class and students to learn? I contend thaat there is an appropriate socialization model for learning and it does not include listneng to ipods, talking on cell phones, etc. I reject what Dr. Edmin says on some levels, but I do agree some teachers are afraid and you can not be afraid and be a good teacher. This is a global community now more than ever before. The competition is global not just local and if one wants to compete, then all that non-sense is at your and sometimes others expense. Why does it happen to our community? We have to stop making excuses and be more responsible. Most people who are overly critical or too liberal making excuses don’t or have never taught in public school or have not visited an at risk inner city school. I challenge you to do that. Visit or substitute teach at an inner city at risk school or at several inner city schools to see for your self, then get back to me and let me know how you fared. When parents don’t want their children to go to the neighborhood school, it’s not necessarily a commentary of the school, it’s a commentary of the neighborhood.
